Solo, Santriwati Cantik. Differences or diversity of the communities in Indonesia if managed properly can become a national strength to rebuild the country.

The remarks were made by Deputy Chairman of the Institute for Human Resources Study and Development of Nahdlatul Ulama (Lakpesdam NU) Ahmad Baso in a seminar held by Lakpesdam NU of Solo at the PCNU Office of Solo, Central Java, over the weekend.

"So just how to manage cultural diversity and pluralism to be a national strength," he said.

The former member of the National Human Rights Commission said, the history of the struggle of Indonesia could not be separated from the city of Solo. Since the colonial period to the present, "Solo has always been a driving force for a change."

Baso exemplified the diversity in the city of Solo in a small scope in which the cultural diversity of the people of Solo has become the driving force of resistance against imperialism.

"Here, the cultural diversity and the diversity of the community are very pronounced. And if we look at history, the differences existing in the city of Solo have been able to become driving forces against any injustice in this country," he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Surakartas Lakpesdam NU, Khoirudin Abil, said he had now also tried to change the difference in the community into a sense of nationalism for the betterment of the country.

However, Abil also called for the importance of addressing the differences wisely, saying the differences could also lead to a negative potential.

"We are aware of the potential differences that occur in this country. Lets see Solo, the city has a great potential for a repeat of the 98 event," he said.

"Therefore, the maturing through the past history should be talked and discussed in this open seminar. In order for all parties to understand and generate a spirit to love and feel a sense of belonging the Indonesian country," he concluded.
